John Forbes Developing Nations Travelling Scholarship

The John Forbes Developing Nations Travelling Scholarship is named in honour of
Dr John Forbes, ASID's first president and one of its founding fathers. In the mid
1950s, Dr Forbes set up the Epidemiology Research Department at Fairfield Hospital
and between 1966 and 1979, he established aid programs in Indonesia and Vietnam.


This Award will be presented to a physician or scientist from the Asia Pacific region, providing them the opportunity to attend the ASID Annual Scientific Meeting 2017 (29 March - 1 April, Blue Mountains) and visit centres in Australia, at the invitation of a Full ASID member. Priority will be given to applicants from developing countries. Previous winners may not apply.


Awardees will receive up to $3,000 in reimbursements to support their attendance at the ASID Annual Scientific Meeting 2017, as well as free registration to the meeting. Reimbursements will include an economy class return airfare, travel insurance and reasonable, itemised, living expenses. Receipts will be required to claim reimbursement of actual expenses and currency of each claim should be clarified.

  • any further documentation you may wish to submit in support of your application.
