Zoonoses 2012 brought together doctors and veterinarians for a truly "One Health" occasion.
The organising committee was in itself an exciting and rewarding experience, with equal numbers of vets and docs and regular and robust teleconferences to hone the program. Each of the 8 topic-based sessions was organised and chaired by the pairing of a vet and a doc, who ensured a great mixture of speakers and content. The opening plenary set the scene, with presentations by Australia's Chief Medical Officer and Chief Veterinary Officer. The 42 posters provided a fascinating insight into the extreme diversity of zoonoses in Australia. It was such an informative, collaborative and interactive meeting that all the committee members immediately put their hands up and agreed to do it all again for Zoonoses 2014.
