Frank Fenner Award for Advanced Research in Infectious Diseases: 2011

ASID is offering this Award of $5,000, which is open to ASID Full or Associate members who have performed a substantial portfolio of original research in Infectious Diseases and who are currently enrolled in or have completed a current research higher degree in the previous seven years.
The Award will not be granted on the basis of research for which a previous Frank Fenner award has been received.  

Previous winners may not apply.    However, previously unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to apply if they are still eligible.

ASID International Travel Award: 2011

This award includes an economy class return airfare to attend an international infectious diseases meeting, accommodation and registration up to a total value of $5,000. All advanced trainees who are training in infectious diseases or microbiology with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and who have ASID Associate membership, are eligible to apply (except previous winners) and are judged on the basis of their previous year's Project Report submitted to the RACP. Letters will be sent to all I.D. trainees and micro trainees registered for the RACP 2010 training year, inviting applications for this Award.   Late applications will not be accepted and applicants must be ASID members.  Also, applicants must advise the secretariat if they receive any other funding for this trip before or during their application.

Receipts (tax invoices for claims in Australian dollars) will be required to claim reimbursement of actual expenses and currency of each claim should be clarified.

John Forbes/Developing Nations Travelling Scholarship: 2011

This Award would be awarded to physicians or scientists from the Asia Pacific region to visit centres in Australia or New Zealand and/or attend appropriate meetings, at the invitation of a Full ASID member.  Priority will be given to applicants from developing countries. Previous winners may not apply.

The Society reimburses for a return full economy airline ticket and travel insurance, as well as itemised reasonable living expenses, up to a total value of $3,000. Receipts (tax invoices for claims in Australian dollars) will be required to claim reimbursement of actual expenses and currency of each claim should be clarified.

AstraZeneca Travel Scholarships 2010 - second award

AstraZeneca sponsors two travel scholarships for 2011. The scholarships are open to ASID Full or Associate members, who are training in Infectious Diseases and/or Microbiology, to encourage their participation in a future major international meeting. Graduates in relevant training programs or who have completed training and are now enrolled in fulltime research programs leading to a higher degree are also eligible.

The applicant must have submitted an abstract for an appropriate overseas conference, and receipt of the award will depend on the acceptance of this abstract for presentation.  AstraZeneca has agreed to award two scholarships of up to $5,000 each towards the cost of airfares, registration and accommodation expenses for the successful applicants.   Previous winners may not apply. Also, applicants must advise the secretariat if they receive any other funding for this trip before or during their application. ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Council Scholarships (2): 2011

The ASID Council will fund two scholarships for the Annual Scientific Meeting at the Mantra at Lorne, Victoria - 30 March 2011 to 2 April 2011. Applicants must have ASID Full or Associate membership and be currently enrolled full-time in a PhD or MD at the time of the meeting and also be receiving an NHMRC scholarship or similar.  Previous winners may not apply. Also, applicants must advise the secretariat if they receive any other funding for this trip before or during their application.

Applicants must have had their abstracts accepted for presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting 2011. The value of the award is up to $2,000 for travel, registration and accommodation costs to attend the meeting. Receipts (tax invoices) required to claim reimbursement of actual expenses.

ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Advanced Trainees Research Award 2011

This Award is seen as a means of recognising and rewarding the valuable contribution made by Advanced Trainees in the fields of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology and who are Associate members of ASID.

On the basis of abstracts submitted for this Award, applicants will be selected from oral presentations given at the Annual Scientific Meeting by Advanced Trainees who are training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and have ASID Associate membership.  The prize will be awarded based on the best oral presentation. The judging panel will be chosen from three senior delegates attending the Meeting. Previous winners may not apply. An award will not be granted on the basis of research for which a previous award has been received. Applicants must specify their personal contribution to the research and list other authors.

The value of the 2010 ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Advanced Trainees Research Award is $2,000 and will be awarded at the Annual Scientific Conference at the Mantra at Lorne, Victoria - 30 March 2011 to 2 April 2011.

ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Best Poster Award: 2011

The ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Best Poster Award 2011 will be chosen from posters presented by ASID Full or Associate members at the Annual Scientific Meeting. This award will be determined by selecting 4-6 posters for a brief oral presentation during the Meeting. Previous winners may not apply.

The judging panel will consist of a small group of senior delegates who have no association with the posters. The final choice is based primarily on the merits of the poster supported by the oral presentation.

The value of the 2010 ASID Annual Scientific Meeting Best Poster Award is $1,000 and will be awarded at the Annual Scientific Mee ting at the Mantra at Lorne, Victoria - 30 March 2011 to 2 April 2011.
