New Business
- Antibiotic stewardship approach at regional hospitals without resident microbiologists/ inf disease people - JF
There is a distinct need to develop an approach that assists regional services, their pharmacists and clinicians to improve antibiotic use etc. Aust Commission wants to draft something. Kate Clezy volunteered that SE Illawara AHS has a well-advanced draft area plan for stewardship. JF working on one for Greater Western AHS and Commission. See Clinical pharmacist antimicrobial stewardship roles.
Would other SC members please notify Kate or Convenor (JF) about other initiatives that are relevant to this issue?
- Status of National Antibiotic Utilisation Programme (NAUSP) - Irene Wilkinson
Concern about future funding and its sources. The programme is unable to accommodate all new requests for joining at present.
- SE Illawara also developing a Standards document for infection control with an eye to governance arrangements. The group alerted Kate to the existence of the AICA Standards as well.
- Intensive care severe pneumonia: Kate also alerted the group that a review of approaches to severe CAP/HAP is taking place across ANZ.
