HICSIG Working Groups
From HICSIG
Functions of Working Groups
Working groups are established to increase consensus amongst HICSIG members around key issues. Their primary aim is not to develop new guidelines per se, but rather examine the practice/opinions of members around ANZ, the existing evidence base (including Guidelines and Standards) and develop analyses that reflect emerging consensus and areas of debate. This may then lead to the development of evidence-based protocols, patient information resources and reviews that benefit the practice of infection prevention and control.

Modus operandi for Working Groups (WG)
1. Suggestions for establishing a new WG can be made by contacting the Convenor. Each WG needs to identify two members willing to act as the WG Coordinators.
2. Suggested sequence of WG action (Coordinator's responsibilities):
- develop a wide and representative network of interested members (eg. by posting a message to via OZBUG/ AICA listservs)
- maintain a list of WG members and coordinate email communications
- formulate a range of specific endeavour/areas requiring consensus or action
- conduct a survey of relevant practice and resource use related to the WG topic area (see Conduct survey)
- conduct relevant literature surveys
- develop a plan for what is most important for the WG to develop/ agree
- develop evidence-based practical resources
- oversee HICSIG website content for that group
- regularly report progress to the HICSIG Steering group
