Forbes Week 2008

CDC Updates Recommendations on Mumps

The US CDC has recently updated its advice on caring for patients with mumps. The article is Updated Recommendations for Isolation of Persons with Mumps.

Guidelines Issued for Infection Control in Acute Care Hospitals

SHEA, IDSA, AHA and APIC (along with the accreditation agent 'The Joint Commission') have joined together to produce A Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals. The document discusses common healthcare infections and makes recommendations on how to prevent them being transmitted within acute care facilities. Specific sections focus on preventing MRSA and C. difficile, four common device related infections and discuss prevention stratgies. A press release is also available here.

Primary aims of HICSIG

  • Develop consensus amongst ANZ Infectious Disease Physicians, Infection Control Professionals and Medical Microbiologists and about key standard approaches to Healthcare Infection Control
  • Improve Infectious Diseases/Microbiologist collaboration with Infection Control nurse professionals in Australia (via Australian Infection Control Association) and New Zealand
  • Promote, develop and implement evidence-based, standardised practical approaches to prevention and control of key healthcare-associated infections
  • Provide a clearing house for sharing of documents, guidelines and patient information materials created by different members
  • Participate in infection prevention and control initiatives across Australia and New Zealand

Using the HICSIG Wiki

  • Content is free to view for all without logging on.
  • Please share your locally developed resources, policies, guidelines, reviews, recommended links: either upload onto this site (see menu link left for upload) and then copy the link to the document (pdf best) onto an appropriate page (place it on Clearing house if uncertain, or send to HICSIG [1]. If document is already on a website then the web address is preferred- that can be directly entered onto a page. Material must be in the public arena and not copyright.
  • Members are welcome to directly add to or edit website content and/or add comments on the 'discussion' pages that lie behind every wiki page. If encountering difficulty, please contact HICSIG [2] or place a question on HICSIG Wiki FAQ. You must logon with a valid username to be able to edit the Wiki.
  • Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
  • If experiencing logon problems or you wish to be enrolled as a HICSIG member, then please contact HICSIG, including your affiliation details [3] Once you have logged in, go to 'my preferences' top right and reassign your password. Please also register your full name and email address for updates.
