Committees

ASID committees strive to ensure that all members are well represented in the running of ASID. Our committee members play a key role in the success of ASID and the work we do.

Advocacy and Policy Committee

The ASID Advocacy and Policy Committee helps coordinate consistent and effective advocacy and policy positions on behalf of ASID. The role of the Committee is to:

  • Identify and recommend advocacy and policy positions and strategy on behalf of ASID

  • Develop an effective strategy to communicate ASID’s perspective on advocacy and policy matters

  • Inform discussion on policy and advocacy priorities in an open and transparent way

  • Focus on furthering ASID’s strategic goals of increasing visibility and influence such as advocating for sound and evidence-based policy directly to governments and in public in identified areas of concern including emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, immunisation and infections at the animal/human interface; and the protection of populations with a disproportionate burden of infectious diseases including First Nations peoples and refugees.

The outcomes of our actions as the EDI committee should reflect
contemporary community values in matters relating to equity and diversity.
Our responsibility is to ensure that there is equity, diversity and inclusion in ASID activities. This would be displayed through our choices when we select speakers for panels and keynotes at conferences; our choice when we endorse research and award prizes; understanding the composition of our membership and developing avenues for mentorship and career advancement for trainees.
