International point prevalence survey on antimicrobial prescribing in children
We have been invited to participate in an international antibiotic point prevalence study, established in Europe and now being rolled out worldwide – the 'ARPEC’ study (Antibiotic Resistance and Prescribing in European Children). This project aims to develop a surveillance system to monitor rates of antimicrobial prescribing in children. The group has approached ANZPID for interest in participation and this is the first project that ANZPID-ASAP is undertaking. It will involve surveying every child on antibiotics in the hospital on a single day.
A pilot study was completed in Sept 2012
Update 4/3/12: The main study has taken place in Nov 2012 and the majority of data have been uploaded.
For any information or assistance, please contact Penelope Bryant.
Guidelines for antibiotic duration and iv to oral step down
David Andresen is leading the drafting of a guideline for duration of antibiotic treatment and intravenous to oral step down for a variety of infectious conditions. Each of the group members has taken on a couple of conditions to review the literature and suggest a guide. When this has been drafted it will be circulated to ANZPID for comment.
